[C2] 1965 won’t start
i recently installed a newly rebuilt motor 327/300hp. It was broke in on a dyno. I got the car started last week and all was good. Stopped and started about 5 times last week, but not to the point of driving yet. Checked timing and was running great!
I just went to screw my tach cable back in and was turning the distributor back and forth(car off) as I was trying to get the tach cable seated. All the sudden heard and felt a very light snap on the distributor cap, almost like it wasn’t seated all the way down on the distributor. Anyways I started the car and it fired right up. However it only ran for about 10 seconds and not well before dying and some black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes.
I have marks on the distributor of were the timing needs to be and was on the marks.
now I can’t get started at all.
i put some fuel in the carb and nothing
i pulled the #1 plug and I do have spark.
however as I crank the engine it sparks maybe every half second, but I’m not sure if that is normal or it should be faster?
any thoughts or ideas?
thank you
i wanted to make sure the butterfly on the carb is in the correct position for starting.
i believe the butterfly was closed when I tried to start
Should the butterfly be closed on a cold start
Or Should the butterfly be open?
Of course Holley owns Edelbrock now (previously Carter) so here is where you find some help in setting the choke. https://www.edelbrock.com/installation-guides
when I tried to start today I just barely pumped the gas pedal.
I think I should have pumped twice to the floor to set the choke.
i will set up the 1/8” gap for the plate. I actually think it is an 1/8th but I had closed it all the way for the photo.
I will check timing when cranking also, appreciate it!
