Does any have an idea what the cost to rebuild a rear end. I have it torn down and the ring gear has broken damaging the housing. So I need a replacement housing and ring gear and shims, plus more. Ball park guess is fine. 67 Vette
Price depends on several things.
1- the amount of damage done, pictures would help
2- the build level of the diff. Many will open an overhaul manual and replace bearings calling it rebuilt.
3- quality work is best

1BACORVETTE - I don't know if you know it, but you're in luck. You just got info from one of the premier rebuilders of vintage Corvette trailing arms, steering boxes and differentials. His detailed craftsmanship and knowledge is well known here. If I was in need, I'd send him my diff in a heartbeat. You might find a cheaper rebuilder, but it would be difficult to find a better rebuilder.
You need look no further than GTR1999 who just posted on this thread. If the C2 diff were a living organism, most guys on this Forum would trust Gary with its life...........
Yes, GTR1999, Gary, is THE BEST that there is! He's a great guy, too! So if you send him pictures or contact him, he will let you know exactly what is needed. Should you decide to have it rebuilt or whatever he suggests, you will be in the best hands in the business. Any differential would be happy to be in his hands.
I really appreciate everyone’s perspective on this issue. I live in the Sacramento area and found a specialized differential rebuilder. Not that I wouldn’t ship it out to the suggested rebuilder. I happened to find a case of that vintage that specs out excellent. Total cost to do the rebuild with all new parts is $1900. I was ok with that so went with it. I’m keeping the OEM case with the car for any future sale.
