What a tragedy. I'm not associated in anyway with the program. But, I always watch NASA TV for the launches and landings. I always visit Kennedy Space Center, when I am in Fla. I saw a Columbia launch in 1997.
I am a huge fan of the space program and shuttle missions. When I heard this on the radio today. It was like someone sucker punched me in the gut.
Prayers and thoughts to all the family and friends of the brave crew.

I don't know if you saw the brief informal comments the mother of the pilot made but she was a classy lady and she dealt with the media much better that they deserved.
Journalists, in general, are a repulsive lot. If I've offended anyone by the gross generalization, I'm sorry, but I can't imagine myself shoving a microphone in the face of a mother whose son was just killed in a horrendous fashion. The question asked was something to the effect "What would you tell a child today whose dream was to be an astronaut?" and the mother replied "I'd tell them to chase their dream and not to let this incident make them afraid to be the best they can be" as well as some further remarks.
My sympathies to the grieving families and friends of these brave souls.
