Just bought a 1964 Silver Blue convertible! Very excited as my only other Vette was a 1974 that drove like a tank! I’m sure I will have many questions, but my first question is for north Jersey owners…anyone recommend a shop that knows vettes? I will certainly need a reputable shop that knows corvettes when I get in over my head! Thanks in advance!
Hillside Corvettes in Bridgewater is the only Corvette shop I know of that I would recommend in North Jersey. Glen has been in business for 35+ years and only works on 53-82 Corvettes, but his specialty is 63-67's. Glen repairs, restores, and has built and raced Corvettes, he also previously served as the judging chairman for the Central Jersey Chapter of the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS). About the only thing Corvette he doesn't do is paint and bodywork.
He doesn't have a website but if you Google Hillside Corvettes you'll find his Facebook page (ignore the C5 and C7 pictured, the C7's his and the C5's his son's, those are the only newer Corvettes he works on ). If you talk to Glen tell him you got his number from "Two N's", he'll understand. It's a one man shop so he's not always able to grab the phone when it rings, but leave a message and he'll call you back.
Nice car in a pretty color, but then I'm sort of partial to Silver Blue 64's.
The first Corvette I ever rode in was a 327/300 4 speed Silver Blue 64 coupe my cousin bought new in 1964. I got my ride in it in August 64 right after he picked it up and brought it to our house on Long Beach Island to show my grandfather. My grandfather had co-signed for him so when the family went out to dinner that night my grandfather got the front seat and I got to curl up under the back window (I was 10). He only had the car 4-5 months before it was stolen when he took a girlfriend Christmas shopping in Philadelphia, and was never recovered.
Seeing the pictures I'm sure Glen at Hillside will be glad to help you with anything you need done.
Great story but with a sad ending! My first vette memory was of my uncle pulling up to my grandparents house in the early 70s and all the kids in neighborhood staring in awe! He first owned at late C1 and then a few years later he traded up for a C2.
I will definitely reach out to Glen and introduce myself. Car doesn’t need much and I try to do as much as I can, but at a certain point I will need a vette guru!
