Trying to reinstall my headlight switch ****, but it won’t snap into place.
it snapped in on the loose switch ( on the bench), twice, But it would not snap in once the switch was installed in the dash.
I removed the switch, and was able to snap in the **** on the bench ( and remove using the little button), but once reinstalled in the car. It didn’t want to snap in.
now even off the car it’s not snapping in.
when not snapping in, it also just spins, not turning the rheostat .
As far as I know, this is the original switch, and was in the car, in the cluster until last night.
Maybe try this...With the switch OUT of the car install the **** shaft until it seats and then pull the **** out to the "headlights on" position. Push in the little button and remove the shaft without disturbing the switch position. Next, install the switch in the dash and push the shaft completely in. This 'pre-positioning' technique seems to solve the problem.
I ended up pushing in the button as I inserted the ****/rod.
without pushing the little button, the rod was pushing the pawl instead of going through it…
I actually disassembled the switch to see what was going on…. I reassembled and got it in the car, only to find I reassembled the contact for the rheostat upside-down. No matter how I twisted the ****, the courtesy lights stayed on…
removed, disassembled and reassembled it, and reinstalled…. Works fine now.
