Default Temperature gauge

The temp gauge on my '66 still isn't working regardless what I've done.
To test the gauge and wire continuity, I grounded the wire to the sender and got full hot temp deflection.
I changed original sending unit with 1 certified correct unit and 2 other off the shelf sending units, still nothing.
What am I missing?

Can you provide information about what the gauge does do? There really isn't enough information here to diagnose.

The last time it registered anything, the needle went to just above cold and it remains there regardless what I do.

I bought this and a temperature sensor from Summit Racing. Comes within 5 degrees of my Holley EFI second temperature sensor. You can paint this , if needed, to match your engine.

Post a reasonably close (but not zoomed in) picture of your sender/intake area.

See TempSenderBad? especially link in post # 3, could be an issue with anything leading up to and including the instrument cluster\gauge itself

Default Temp gauge pictures with explanations under each photo


Beginning position of temp needle, ignition on or off, hot or cold

Temp sender wire jumped to ground. Ignition on. The needle remained full scale when the ignition turned off.

When the ignition was turned on again. the needle dropped to this position and now remains there regardless on ignition on or off, engine hot or cold.

Looks like the needle slipped out of position and then stuck there. It shouldn't be that high or stay that high with the key off.
