i've got a 65 manual steering im thinking about converting to borgeson power steering. anything else you need to get other than the kit (pump, hoses, gearbox, bracket, coupler)? any stock steering components? besides the addon crank pulley
thanx joel
Its pretty easy to do but remember you have to remove steering column which is easy to and cut off a little bit at least I did with my ididit columns about a inch measure twice cut ounce .
I always change the pump return line on the reservoir to make it face up towards the box.
You can use 60s Pontiac reservoir, or just RE weld the existing one.
Its not necessary, but it looks a lot better.
You might also need new steering column shaft bearings, you’ll know when you remove it.
Not buying the kit - just parts to set it up a little different and cheaper.
Starting with the Steering box
Borgeson 600 Power Steering Unit PN - 800108 - $434 @ summit currently - probably cheaper if you look. I think Jegs had a $20off coupon.
Power Steering Pump - Speedway has the whole unit for $143
I'm going to try the GM Type II pump instead of the old Ham can style. Aluminum and a little lighter. Speedway PN: 91033902-10
- Type II pump adapter for my SBC. $33 on speedway pn - 91032905
- Rag joint or coupler for steering shaft - Borgeson brand
- Rag Joint is 18mmDD to 3/4" 36 spline PN - BRG-055034 $105
- universal joint - pn 013450 $79
They also make a universal joint with vibration dampners.
Vibration Damper, Steel, 3/4DD X 18MM DD - pn 034950 $115
- Hoses and AN adapters 3 hoses, 1-10an hose from the res to the pump, 2 - 6an hoses, one to the pump and one to the res. Cheap kit for PTFE high pressure hoses about $110 on ebay or you can buy them summit etc.
- Fluid res - $62

I completed the conversion on my 65. Here is correspondence directly from Borgeson Company to me. I wanted them to be very specific as to what extra parts I needed to make this happen.
all extra parts were purchased from Corvette Central
After everyone else provided part numbers and details on all the other items...could you kindly come up with the part number or description for this one?

Why bother even having a forum if we don't share information? Of course we can go look it up ourselves. I had just complemented the previous posters for providing complete information - making this thread a good find others wanting to make this somewhat complex conversion down the road. Then "Uekster" pops in with some vague comment about a frame bracket. While you did follow up with a bracket part number later, the additional condescending comment about "Googling it" was not really helpful...
