Default 1967 L89 build dates

Hi everyone. New to the forum , but following it for a year. This past week there have been 2 (?) 67 L89's on EBAY. One is likely questionable ...(item #2402045965) . The second is an amazing restoration.( item 2402540958). My concern is about the second. Somewhere I have seen or read the L88/L89 engine Corvettes were built late in the model year. The serial number of the second car is numerically under 2000 (7101915), thus being quite early in the build cycle. Can anyone verify when the L89's may have been built or am I dreaming here?[

Well I just re-read the entire L-88/ L89 section of Noland Adams book. The information you seek is most likely in there but I couldn't find it :skep: He does make mention of the "early" L-88s and "later ones", don't know if this means early in the production year or just early in sequence of build.

Sorry I couldn't help. Noland Adams himself lurks around here, maybe he can help you out!

Welcome to the forum.

Steve

The Maroon L89 is not real. Per GM memo the L89 option was announced on 11-22-66, ad at least a month to get one out and you are looking at a build date around the last week of dec 66, or the first week of jan 67 before one could possibly be on the streets.

This car shows vin of 101915 (end of sept 66), far too early to be an L89. it also shows block stamping of T0908IU (sept 8th 66) almost 10 weeks prior to the L89 even being announced. I would be interested to see what heads are on this car, and what dates are on them. In looking at the engine pics closely you can see a plug in the head, inbetween the spark plugs indicating that these are not even the correct 67 L89 3904392 heads, they in fact would have to be 68-70 heads to have this temp sender port in them. Also in his description of matching number parts, heads are not mentioned. attached is a pic of the "orig protecta plate" it is no doubt a repop. I also like the orig owners name, could it be more generic??

I also have the info off of a repop window sticker from this car if anyone would like to see it, it also is plagued with mistakes. Bottom line, it may be a nice restored car, but it is not a real L89 car. :cry
