Default 64 Clock Disassembly

I have had a rattle in the dash for the last two years. Since we have a cool spell (86*) in my garage I decided to hunt it down. The face bezel was a little loose. So, I remove the P/S access pane. Remove the two clips on the back of the clock. Ease the clock out, and remove the the two bulbs & wiring harness from the clock. The lens & bezel are very loose. As I rotate the clock out falls one tiny screw, And another is rattling around in the clock and falls out. Lucky they did not go flying to the "land of lost". There is a third screw holding the bezel to the face. You can only access from the inside. Do I pry around the middle of the clock housing to seperate? I don't want to mess this up. Any advice would be appreciated.

The bezel was originally held in place with cast rivets. To open the clock first remove the nut/spade from rear of housing. Next, unscrew the set **** from the shaft. You may have to hold the shaft with small vise grips. Then bend the crimps around the middle of the housing out (I use a large screwdriver). The two halves can now be separated.

This is one of the crimps that hold the two halves together that 3030cam was noting.

Got it apart, tightened the screws, and all good to go. Prior owners must have been in there before. Thank you one and all!

I also take some of the 'spring' out of the clock retaining clips (squeeze with pliers) so less pressure is asserted on the bezel. Also makes it easier to remove 'next time'.

That clock reminds me of mine. The original staked rivets had broken and someone tried to use JB Weld to hold the clock together. It fell apart shortly after I got the car.

the bezel is soft aluminum and drills well. I drilled holes and used some tiny screws harvested from some scrapped laptops to screw the bezel back together.
