True part, also look at the face. I parallel grind the flanges for all my builds. I like flat surfaces going together. You can see the stamping transferred from the bearing race.
The axle flanges here are not 63, you can see the raised ends used after 63
Gary, the half shafts look like they might be the larger diameter 74-79 pieces, but it does look like it does have the 63 only u-joint flanges.
Hi Glen,
The supports are mixed between 1963 & 1973
The right arm was rebuilt years ago, the left was mostly original- the bearings were mostly NDH , some Hyatt. NDH bearings were not used until the bearing merger about 1967? So based on what I see here and with the diff out of the car, this car was worked on around 1973.
Gary, are the parts in pic 2 sandblasted? Any surfaces need to be protected for that? If blasted what medium do you use?
I don't use sand, dangerous and messy. I use glass bead, this is a fine grit. Finish depends on what the owner wants, original or one that will hold up better for a car that is driven.
Got the diff blasted and etched today. This is not a 63 diff, it is a late 72, probably used in a new 73. It is a much better diff than the C2 diff's, especially the the 63-5's.
The 63 only half-shaft flange is super rare. Need to be careful when installing the U-Joint as they bend easily. I had to make a backing plate of sorts to install mine using a hydraulic press.
Not sure if they were swapped for the stronger flange near the end of '63 production. My June SWC has one of each type strong and weak flange
Hi Chalie,
Have you got the car back on the road now? I think you were close to the shakedown cruise. Remember to follow the diff break in I told you about and change out the oil at 500 miles. With that box and the original steering wheel you shouldn't need ps, even if you were parallel parking the car! Enjoy it.

Gary, yes short shake down run but rear differential was flawless, quiet as a mouse (not so the exhaust:-)…
No, I haven’t forgotten your steps/advice on the differential break in procedure:-)… with winter being around the corner I probably will not have much time/miles on car till spring/summer.
GEAR OIL will get changed especially with that new drain plug you installed:-)..
Gear box install will be a future project, it came out great can’t wait to experience that…
Thanks again, Chalie..
** recovering from some surgery, all good, should have rear ride height & more importantly that exhaust all TIGHTENED up in upcoming weeks & then more driving 🤨😀..** Exhaust came disconnected, totally my fault on that one… Lucky to find some roadside wire, & nurse it back home, Look at that purdy differential:-)…
