Anyone know the part number for a new AC Delco (or another brand you would recommend) replacement starter for a 327/350 engine that will work with the original support bracket? I'm looking for one that mounts to the block, not the bell housing. Originality is not important Thanks in advance!
Look in the Summit catalog for Powermaster starters. This are all brand new starter with quality parts. Those from NAPA and almost all other sources are selling rebuilts which don't have the same starting power and don't last as long
If you have your original starter, consider taking it to an auto electric shop for a rebuild. That will cost much less than a whole new starter and it'll be guaranteed to fit correctly.
A few months ago I bought a rebuilt Ultima starter from OReillys for my 62, it was in stock, $80 plus core charge. It bolted right in, the support bracket fit just fine, and it starts every time.
I'd be interested in hearing more about reduced cranking torque. Got details?
TIA,
Live well,
SJW
Don't have details, but the one I took out was fairly new Delco, such as that sold by many. The powermaster seems to have more torque and easily cranks when the engine is hot

Okay, I misunderstood your first reply -- thought you were saying that a rebuilt would typically generate less torque than original.
I went with the Power Master "Original Look" replacement on my 64.
It works well and cranks better than before, especially when the motor is hot. For the purists, my old starter was not an original so not worth rebuilding, IMO.
Just make sure to use the shim if it needs it. I burned up the first replacement solenoid cranking the motor without the shim installed.
The second replacement fit perfectly with the shim and worked as it should. Oops, lesson learned the hard way.
