I put remote solenoids on both of my cars. They are handy when running into the store or other short visits. The first combined unit I installed failed due to the remote portion. I replaced it with a 500A solenoid (continuous duty) and an individual 10A remote control to actuate the solenoid. It works well, but the continuous draw for the remote will run the battery down after a long period of setting, so I put a switch on the remote to shut it off when parking the car at home.
Also, be aware some of the solenoids are limited to less than 150 degrees F which doesn't play well under the hood of R66.

That would never work for my '62---the under hood temps are always in the 150 range.

Indeed it won't work under either of the cars I own for long. The problem became apparent in R66 as the switch is above the battery in the hood latch assembly. Heat from the exhaust manifold is of course > 150 deg. F. Thus the oil in the solenoid is beginning to seep out around the connections due to expansion from the heat. I have had this problem previously with some aftermarket coils which sat on the engine. I purchased a different continuous duty solenoid and another remote control for a replacement should the current devices fail.
I also retained the manual switches which work well, but it is a PIA to open / close the hood every time you stop for a short task. Remote solenoid in R66. Switches to disconnect the remote control power when in the garage for storage. Remote solenoid in our 68RS with switches to bypass the remote control. May last as it is at the front of the car more distant from the engine heat.
I used one of these when I towed a truck behind my RV. Rated 185* temp. Its mechanically held. Only draws current when you switch it. Never had any problems with it.
