I have this question up on the C4 section with no responses...
Building a 65 using a resto mod frame that uses C4 suspension.....
I purchased a 85 parts car with the 4+3 manual in it.... Wondering if the bellhousing will bolt up to a muncie or a TKX????
Anyone??
I don't know why a Muncie wouldn't bolt up. That 4+3 is a super T10, to the best of my memory. All T-10s, all Muncies, and all super T-10s (EXCEPT those made for MY '63) will bolt right up to all Chebby bell housings.
not sure what type of clutch set up but I doubt the C4 housing will except a manual linkage set up on a slave cylinder. as Jim said the bolt pattern is the same

Thats a good point.... I guess I should wait until I start to take the parts car apart before I ask too many questions.... Just trying to put a plan together.
thanks
Just for added information.
ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Chevy V8 engines (SBs, W-motors, BBs), beginning with the VERY FIRST 1955 V8 (265) have the same bolt pattern on the back of the block for a bell housing (or auto tranny-YUK). And all manual transmissions share the same bolt pattern for attachment to the back of the bell housing.
There were a few exceptions to transmission/bell housing/fork compatibility-------------------BUT THE BOLT PATTERNS ARE ALL THE SAME BEGINNING IN 1955 AND LATER!
The most notable variations, as Jim mentioned, is the 1963 ONLY mating of the T-10/Muncie and bell housing.
The mid-60 ChevyII and some trucks had a different position of the hole for the throwout bearing fork----------------------but their bolt patterns for the block and tranny were still the same.
EXCEPT for some truck housings and the ChevyII housings, all other housings have the ball stud for the fork in the SAME position. Thus, the geometry for the fork/bearing for a 1955 open bottom iron bell housing is the same as the geometry for a BB and later full enclosure alum bell housing.
And, additionally, beginning in 1955, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Chevy flywheels (and flexplates) are either the smaller 153 teeth(12 3/4in) version, OR, the larger 168 teeth(14in) version. And respectively use either a 10.4in or 11in clutch.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN 11in FLYWHEEL, AS SOME PEOPLE SAY!
AND THERE ARE NO CASTING NUMBERS ON A MUNCIE TAIL SHAFT!
Yes, the bolt pattern is the same , but that bell is set up for a hyd slave cylinder . not a big deal if you are planning a hyd clutch pedal setup.
I hope to use the stock clutch linkage, but we shall see... upgrade it with the rods with the better ends....
Getting alot of " push" from people to go LS.... granted I think the LS is a great engine but I dont want any electronics for spark or gas..... Small block, Carb, HEI distributor, and a manual ( probably a TKX).... Doesnt' get much simpler than that..
Trying to get all of the value from the 85 parts car that I can.......
