Default Parking brake warning switch

My switch is present.. and actually works... sometimes!

It seems no one is making a reproduction of this switch.
Did some research and I found that in 61 they eliminated the blinking function present in 58-60 (not sure about 57 and earlier)
But the actual switch might be the same?

Does anyone have experience with refurbing one of these? Or possibly using another switch that is available?

Thanks,
Fred

I rebuilt the original in my 58. It wasn't too bad. Got it opened, cleaned out the gunk, closed it back up and it worked fine.

I did an article for our chapter newsletter years ago comparing an original to a reproduction I can't find the article but here are some of the pictures.

I've deleted my original comment. T Hoyer below is correct (thanks Tom). The flasher was a separate unit. I think it was a Tungsol 642. (Tom's picture). Used a smaller non flashing single pin bulb. I think that the #57 blinking bulb started with the C2 cars, and is larger in size.

For what it's worth, I have made many from a standard microswitch. Bend the end to contact the slide when it is pushed in. There are many different styles/sizes.

Not sure about later years, but 58-60 they used this flasher to control the blinking.

Thanks Tom. I got it wrong, and have corrected my post above.

Leo,

My 61 is also early 102794.. (Am I really 4 cars after you??). Mine has been in the family since new and is untouched in many areas. There was no flasher for this circuit on my car. This is backed up by the page in the '61 AIM, which has a note on the bottom saying "flasher removed ". Unless they switched over the tooling in the 4 cars between us?

Fred

Fred , you are exactly correct no flasher, it’s built into the bulb. I don’t know how. It’s a special bulb (256) I think. The bulb performs the flash function. Yes sir 4 cars after mine. I’m guessing November 14, 1960.

Leo - thanks for the clarification. Would love to see a photo of that bulb if you have one some day.
Found this online..

256 14V .27A BA9s Flasher Light Bulb Replacement Lamp

Looks like an LED equivalent may be available as well. I'll post an update when I find out.
Merry Christmas all!
