I am evaluating a restored C2 corvette with number matching drive train. My only hesitation in pulling the trigger is that the odometer has not been working for a few years. Hagerty values the car at a price higher than the selling price. I would greatly appreciate any feedback from those with more experience than me.
Chances are the miles driven have been low during the non operation of the speedo...Prepare yourself for a expensive repair of the unit. That is the only concern that I think you should be aware of. Oh! And have the car inspected by an expert! that will ease you mind!
Typical cost to restore your speedo is between $190 & $275. That assumes you are pulling the cluster, removing the speedo and reinstalling. Just your labor. Lots of You Tube to help you on that.
I got replacement odometer gears from Zip. I had a local speedo shop put them in and generally go through the speedo. seems like the gears were around $75. and the speedo repair was around $180.
Before you get the speedometer rebuilt, make sure the problem is the speedometer.
Disconnect the cable from the transmission, attach your drill to the cable spin it in reverse. Have your phone record a short video of the gauge to see it it works or not.
You might also have to see if the cable is spinning from the transmission. Remove the cable from the speedo. Snake the speedo end of the cable back out and into the engine compartment and with your wife or neighbor watching, drive up and down the driveway or around the block . If the cable spins the the driven gears in the transmission are good.
IF the cable is brand new my my money is that the cable is the cause of no indicated speed. The new cables sold by the big vendors are crap. For a few bucks more have a new cable made for your car that will work.

I had that exact same problem, bought a new cable from a Corvette vendor and Speedo didn’t work (it had been working with and older cable that was tattered on the outside)…
ordered from Deluxe Speedometer, and very happy..
but also my odometer wasn’t working, tried to replace the gears myself and messed up the calibration…
sent it off to CSM-west, they rebuilt and recalibrated it…
my only complaint, it took 13 weeks…. I knew that going in…. Experts get busy.

I had Joe Ray calibrate my speedo and tach, took only 2 1/2 weeks, including shipping times.
