I believe this was built on June 28th (F28). The style says 1966 Convertible. STD trim is black vinyl. 988 Milano Maroon and the AA means St Louis for the paint. It was the 4791st body built in St Louis.

Feel free to correct me if any of that is wrong!

Haha. I'm just waiting for someone to say I have a Franken-Vette. It's good to know the history so I can know what mods were done.

Welcome to the brother/sisterhood. Condolences for the loss of your dad. It's great that he left you such a wonderful car.

The brain trust here can inform you about countless things if you'll post up a lot more photos of the car. The more photos, the more you'll learn. It looks beautiful in the couple of pics you've posted so far.

Live well,

SJW

There, fixed it for you. There could, also, have been a 4791 coupe built in St Louis.

Here are a few pics. I had the dreaded clutch linkage issue and didn't realize how easy a fix it was until I actually saw where someone had put a regular cotter pin in there. I used a paper clip as a temporary fix. I've since replaced it with the correct clutch linkage retainer clip. Although I think someone may tell me that I could have just used a reguler cotter pin. Now I'm wondering if I even need the clutch pedal push rod spacer.

Kung, a good lookin car. It is very similar to mine:

The fact it was you dad's must be very important to you. My suggestion would be to make it safe and have all the fun you can have with the car. Yes, it has a '65 hood, '65 upholstery, and '65 cones on the wheels but it is still a damn nice car. I had mine out today and with the side pipes and 4 speed it was just a smile kinda afternoon.
Drive hard and enjoy the journey!

I agree with ruxvette... it is a great looking Corvette! Nonetheless, it is a "66 and unless the cheese has slipped off my cracker, it was built in February 1966. Is it really registered as a '65 with that VIN?

I’d trust the VIN, but you should compare it to the title.

By the way, while we are giving you a hard time, it’s a “Sting Ray.”

Your cheese might be slipping...according to the NCRS spec guide F28 should be a Feb '66 produced car...but then it goes on to say the last vin produced in Feb '66 was 5283. This car, 5328, would have been made in early March.
All this is giving me a headache which means I will have to go for another drive tomorrow...

Is there another hood emblem that's supposed to be there besides the one that's already there? Thanks for the info.

The title is the same as on the VIN and states "Sting Ray" .

My dad actually had the original wheels that came with it but decided to change them. He preferred that style of wheel, which I personally think looks better as well. I'll have to go check out how different the '65 vs '66 hood and upholstery is. Surely there isn't THAT much difference between the two. I've been looking at Vette sites to replace some of the vinyl panels and such. For the most part, they are in decent condition, but I have an itch that needs to be scratched. I'd like to buy all kinds of stuff for this thing, but I'll end up broke if I try to do everything all at once. I'll just take my time and enjoy the car, it drives so well and the engine purrs like an angry gorilla.

The "F28" code on the Trim Tag designates the build date for the body, not the production date of the car. So, since the body was built on the last day of February, it's very likely that the car was assembled in March.
