Why do my tie rods look so small compared to the new ones. 1964 with nothing stock on it! (Maybe) The inners are too big to work. The grease fittings hit when the wheel is turned. Someone said look at the Corvair tie rods and they do look thin like mine.
Old New
Is the inner and outer different? My inner has a 5/8 nut and the outer has a 11/16. The new ones have an 11/16 and 3/4 nuts.
Where did you buy those parts? Inner and outer tie rod ends are different. Your current outer looks correct. The new one you show doesn't look like it is the correct part...inner or outer.
Almost all the things I have read say that both the inner and outer are the same except for the left or right threads. Most of the corvette parts shops show the fat ones. Google c2 tie rods and they will look just like the news ones sent to me.
cheers
Brett
I would stick to these.
Dorman, Moog, Delphi, TRW, & AC Delco
They’re are all pretty decent quality.
Most of the $6 - $15 stuff is complete junk and a waste of money, I’ve tried them, never again.
All the nuts, inner and outer should be the same size and you need 2 x LH & 2 x RH thread.
That mesh is there to protect the thread in transit only, you need to remove it.
The new one you have looks way too small for the tube.
They’re supposed to be just loose enough to screw in by hand.
Never run across any tie rods on my Corvettes or Mopars that look like your new ones. I see in Google a bunch of them that look like that but there are also sources of more correct ones listed. Correct ones are out there.
