Has anyone had any experience with converting the chev to LPG/CNG (liquid petroleum gas/compressed natural gas). I am about to convert my ute (`77 Holden) most likely by droping in a chev to replace the aussie V8 and run the engine on straight gas (not gasoline)
Just wondering on the areas I would have to change or pay a lot of attention to?
I am certainly not an expert, but from my limited knowledge know that "gas" has no lubricating properties (as does gasoline) which causes problems with the valves in Chevy's when converted. Stellite seats and 21-2N or 21-4N alloy SS valves would probably take care of this. I would also change the guides to Bronze insert liners (for better "dry" lubricity), and change over to positive type seals with Viton material for the valve guide seals (probably require the valve stem bosses to be cut down in diameter and trimed depending on which heads you have).
