When checking for pushrod length (sbc 383 stroker) using the adjustable pushrod and tool on the rocker stud, when at zero lash do you add the lifter preload distance to the pushrod for the correct length pushrod.
For that matter, should you always add the pre-load distance, depending on the lifter, for the correct length.
Thanks,
Frank.
The little plastic rocker thing is not very accurate. You really need to use the rocker arm you will be running and an adjustable push rod. After you're happy with the final lift at the valve, measure your pushrod and add the amount of plunger depth required by the lifter manufacturer to the length. The total lift the valve moves should match or slightly exceed the cam card.(Lobe * rocker ratio). If cam is unknown, go for max lift. This will give you the tightest pattern on the valve tip.
