I purchased a 1960 Corvette. I am trying to verify the block's age. The left rear of the block numbers is 3756519. The suffix on the clock is F0I0800 and has the right assy# as the vin with is 00867S103033. The broch marks on the stamp plate on the right front look genuine.
Any help would be appreciated, Dave

Would you think that the block has been restamped? I have been told that this car had a full body-off about 15 years ago. The broch marks are there. I'm just trying to find out about the car.

As near as I can tell from the photo, it appears to be legitimate.
Is the engine in it a 283/230 base motor with the correct intake, WCFB carb, etc, as a "CQ" suffix code would indicate? I won't say it hasn't been done, but it's pretty rare for someone to go to the trouble of restamping a block to make a base motor. If someone's restamping a block they usually stamp it as a higher horse power version to improve it's value and desirability.
If it's any help a 1960 283/230 should have intake casting 3746828, WCFB carb # 2818S or 3059S, head casting 3774692, exhaust manifold casting 3749965 (LH) and 3750556 (RH), and the tach should have 5500 RPM redline.

again, what's the VIN number derivative stamped on the block pad?
The engine stamp has the correct vin# stamp on it. Everything else looks right.
Do you have a better pic. of the VIN stamp? For that engine, each digit would have been done individually. A gang holder wasn't used until later. Also, the free hand stamped digits were approx. the same size as the assembly stamp. They were much smaller once a gang holder was used.
Very interesting...when did they change from individual numbers to a gang stamp for the VIN derivative?

Lemme throw a "Yeah, but...." into this discussion.
My FI '60's engine, which is original to the car, has a gang-stamped VIN derivative on the engine pad. Perfectly normal.
Stashed away in the Catacombs here at Chaos Manor is a '61 Corvette block, "CQ" suffix, which has a VIN derivative which has individually stamped numerals.

Whyizzat????
What is the VIN of your 60? The 1st gang stamp I have a pic. of is #5884. Never heard of or seen a hand stamped VIN on a 61.
