Unfortunately, people don't know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I received a text from a 60+ year old friend thanking me for my service on this special day. Being a wise azz, I texted back asking him how long I have been dead.
I went to a Memorial Day car show which was to honor police and firefighters with no mention of the soldiers that gave their lives in war. The police and firefighters do indeed deserve a display of honor, but maybe a separate day. Even Gay Pride has their day, what about a heterosexual day? The worse thing that can happen is to loose the history of democracy and the sacrifice made to establish and keep it. Just my $.02. I guess I am sensitive due to a year in Vietnam and the loss of some I served with.

I agree with you 100%.
But I also think any day a veteran, living or not, gets honored and thanked for their service is a good day.
Thanks for the post Steve. It seems our schools are no longer teaching history, or at least the tragic parts of war and most importantly the cause and justification. The greatest threat to Democracy is ignorance. History does repeat it's self and without knowledge of the historical actions taken by governments which resulted in war, wars will continue.
What is war good for? Absolutely Nothing!!!!! This is a quiz, who sang the song?
