Don,
That's one good looking engine. Any issues with hood clearance? If not, did you have to do anything special with the install to avoid hood clearance issues? Hope she runs every bit as good as she looks

She snarls on startup much more than previous L76. As soon as a test drive confirms a good timing setting the shielding will go back on. Here’s the scoop on hood clearance Leif…..I removed stock manifold which came on it (dual plane) and replaced with Weiand low profile single plane…..About 1 inch lower. I made some strip caulk cones about 1 1/2 inches tall and placed on air cleaner at 12, 6, 9 and 3 o’clock positions. Carefully lower the hood, raise and check cones…..then let ‘er slam home. Not 1 of my cones even made contact with the hood which tells me I probably could have left stock intake on. BP gave me the impression that it might be a good idea to change intakes……didn’t need it. New tires enroute then shakedown cruise. Thanks for the compliments……Just have to be careful to not pretzel my driveshaft. That thing looks pathetically weak. What really amazes me is that all the pulleys lined up perfectly with no adjustments! I thought that was a small miracle. Lots of little fabrication stuff required for this project. Total cost is probably about 10k.

I put the same engine, from Blueprint, in a 78. I had problems with low end performance and cruise. They set them up for peak HP at high RPM.
I had to reset the distributor springs to get less advance at lower RPM to fix it. It takes away some top end power, but, with that engine, it does everything but fly.
one of the Blueprint Techs walked me through it.

Well….Just had my first test drive. Everything worked great. Temp 185….Oil pressure was hovering around 80 at speed. I would like to see that a bit lower but don’t have much control. Only got on it once and it was shocking compared to what it was before. The front end was aiming for the sky and I flew attack jets in the military! She wanted to take off! Only thing I had to adjust upon returning is idle speed. BTW I had no low speed issues at all.

Congrats, Don! It must be mighty gratifying. Might you care to share details about things you had to fabricate, tweak, modify, add, etc?

Live well,

We had A4s in El Toro and in Yuma. Where did you fly out of? I eventually got my backseat qualification for F4s as an E5.

I was in VMA(AW) 242 in El Toro for 2 years then went to Kingsville Tx as an instructor in T2-C Buckeyes………Fun fun fun……….I asked for F4’s but they were being phased out for the F18 at the time.
