Looking to locate where this wire goes on my 66.. It is hard to tell if it is tan or white. Short wire but it seems like everything is working. If it is tan the wiring diagram says it is the beam selector switch. So is that the switch that goes from low beam to high beam? Looks more white. Any suggestions?
Tan can be parking brake switch but that's the wrong connector. Stop light switch is in that area and is white but I'd expect that to be a two wire connector not a single. Door switch is white but that's way short for the door switch.

I found out the wire was to the switch . I plugged it in and brake lights came on but would not come off.The switch bracket I think is bent I.I put pressure on the switch and lights came off!Need to look more into it tomorrow
If you push in on the plunger of the switch, the brake lights should go out. You have to align the plunger with the brake pedal shaft and then adjust the switch in and out to make it work only when the pedal is depressed

Wonder what would cause the brake light switch mounting plate to move like that. Almost like it got bent.

There are two possibilities,
The switch bracket is very thin metal and bends easily which could be from someone hitting it hard when playing under the dash. You can bend it back with pliers or an adjustable wrench.
The other thing is the plastic bushings on which the pedal rides may me worn or missing allowing the pedal to move from side to side. See if you can move it when you apply pressure on it. That becomes a job to replace them.

Anyone playing with wires should have Dr Rebuilds Ooooohh Sooo easy wire diagrams. Don't let the smoke out

From the Doc himself... I also agree: they are invaluable in determining what a wire and its connector looks like. All other wiring diagrams just show what's connected to what. His diagrams (2 per car, heavy laminations, ~12"x18" ea) show the end connectors. https://shop.docrebuild.com/OosoezWiringGuide.aspx
PS: He's got a very quirky website that offends some, pleases others, and he's very specific about what he requires of his customers - just be honest. Everybody: please, let's not get into praising or bashing Doc Rebuild here; there's a political subforum for that.
I'm both happy and sad that it was the brake switch wire. As Nowhere man suggested, somebody seems to have done...something. But in that regard I am not surprised. Old cars, and for a lot of their lives they weren't holy chalices. If I posted here on Corvetteforum that I ran a new hot lead in my 66 and that it was blue so I could immediately spot it versus any other possible repairs from the pas...oh my gosh I've confessed!
Don't feel bad Chris, I worked in the nuclear industry and at Dresden Power Station designed and built in the early 60s. I believe GE did the design and they did not follow the National Electric Code when designing and building the plant. I guess they made their own rules back then.

I moved the bracket with a little C-Clamp.It was hard getting any leverage with pliers or a wrench. I needed to remove the switch which was a PIA.All good.
It fixed this problem also. No more play.
