Curious - i put a mew RST twin disk in my
wife's 62
i know
about the 500-750 mile break-in, which on a weekend cruiser will take ages but alas….
does that floater clunk/bounce ever go away?
this car has a close ratio trans, 3.55s and 340hp so its kinda gutless until you get it about 2500 rpm, so take offs require a bit if slipping the clutch…, And it shakes the whole car when that floater bounces. Im willing to fully break it in, but i have to swap shifters this weekend, and if thats just part od that system, i might go to a conventional clutch with the easiest pedal I can find
I've had an RST behind a blown 454 and it was a butter clutch with no chatter and held well. That said, I've had other McCloud single puck clutches that never got over the chatter with a correct break-in and set-up. I've always followed the rule that if it chatters at all, do everything you can to mitigate that, higher rev, very slow engagement, and let the three or four parts mate. Most of your efforts will be the clutch while driving, which sucks when you're breaking in a new motor and sorting everything else out. That's why it's key to have a correctly centered bell, and a correct fork geometry. All that info is a search away if you need it.
Shaking the whole car” sounds like clutch chatter or shuddering which is usually from something like the flywheel not flat/too much runout, or a bad diaphragm clutch pack (fingers uneven) that is not releasing uniformly, or a bad motor/transmission mount. Could also be something about the twin disc set up procedure that’s a little off. I’ve never had a twin disc clutch but I’ve not read of any chatter issues from those that do. I don’t think the discs have any engagement springs in them but it always sounds like they are typically smooth.
