I have an aftermarket power window kit installed in my 65 coupe. It has the same problem as many have posted here concerning jamming in the up or down position. The torque on these aftermarket motors is just too much. I finally got fed up and removed the entire motor and regulator from the passenger side door to inspect. It has no gear problems and works fine as expected with no load. I have read all the threads and tried some of the proposed fixes, but still have the problem. I have a few ideas yet to try, but I noticed an adjustment on the motor. I am wondering if this may adjust motor torque. Note the photo attached. Does anyone know what this adjustment is for?
Dejavet - I've used those later model motors in my 61 Vette (pic attached) but have the older GM versions in my midyears. That nut you are pointing at is not for any adjustment for torque,
it's basically the end play adjustment for the armature. In a nutshell, if the motor has been apart or fussed with, the nut is backed off and the threaded shaft is lightly run down till it contacts the end of the
armature, then backed off about a 1/4-turn followed by tightening the nut. That allows ample movement for the armature without too much binding or too much slop.
When I used those newer style motors in the '61, I did not notice any quicker or stronger movement of the window glass.
Hopefully you'll hear from a guy who owns a shop in Florida and has done a lot of these installations...Mike Coletta, and he'll have some suggestions for you.
Good luck,
Mike T - Prescott AZ
Thanks for the response, Mike. I though it was a long shot. I know Mike Coletta. I probably should have called him first. Anyway, I have a few more ideas to try.
