Default Interior Lighting

Hi, just purchased my first C2 convertible and have an issue with my interior lights. When the car arrived, the passenger light worked when the door was opened. The drivers side light didn’t work and removed it and found out it was bad.

While checking the other lights, the license plate light wasn’t working as well. I removed the assembly and replaced the light. After putting it back together, the interior light no longer works and the license plate light still doesn’t work. The car was restored back in 08-12 and the wires are newer.

Fuses look good as well so I am stumped. Help appreciated.

1. Make sure you use the correct Made In USA bulbs. Check owners manual for correct bulb #. The courtesy light bulbs may use two terminals........can't remember anymore........but double check to be sure bulb is correct for socket.

2. Check for 12 volts power at each bulb using a good multimeter.

3. Check that bulb socket is connected/grounded to frame ground and battery neg.

The dash lights work and brighten and dim as expected. I did find the fuse was blown as it was facing in a manner that you couldn't tell it was bad. I attempted to replace it but every time I put one in, it gets hot and blows. I removed and unplugged the license plate light before attempting another fuse and had the same results. As well, the flashers and brake lights are not functioning as well. Hope this helps.

That could be the issue because everything worked except for the one bulb when it was delivered. One courtesy bulb was out and I went to the parts store and purchased replacement bulbs that fit the socket. I'll look to be sure they are correct as far as wattage, etc. Do you know what the number is off hand?

You MUST use a two contact number 90 bulb for the courtesy lights no ground is involved at the socket. The voltage passes through when the door switch is grounded or the headlight switch rotated. a single contact bulb like the other lights in the car will not work. That includes the third courtesy light in the rear compartment of the convertible or the dome of a coupe. All three must be double contact bulbs. Otherwise you're 12 V is running directly to ground and will blow the fuse. The socket for the courtesy lights is not grounded anywhere near the socket, including the mounting bolts.

The 90 solved the issue. Thank you for the listing above. I didn’t see license plate light. Do you have the number for that one as well?

For 1967 Corvettes the correct lamp designations and their locations, as published in the owner’s manual. Also here is the correct fuses, their ratings and circuits.

You can use either the 67 or 97 bulb. The only difference is the 97 is very slightly brighter.
