Default Engine suffix code clarification

1965 early and possibly later Big Block production, was the second part of the engine suffix code stamped separately?

all the BB suffix codes I have seem all looked to be done in a gang

I believe some were (suffix last letter stamped separately). There may be pics in archives if you search.
