Bulging hose
1966 L75 327/300hp. Out for a long drive, temp gauge still not working so when I stopped
for a break, this is what the top radiator hose looked like. I have no idea how old the hose is.
It's goy a 15# new radiator cap and it's not puking coolant when the engine is off.
I'm thinking it's just an old hose.

Yeah, the layers of the hose are breaking down and a bubble of coolant has gotten in there.

What he says….^. It will probably blow…..eventually. Hoses are so much more reliable today than they were back in my formative years. Seems like hoses blew all the time back then.

I wasn't referring to the little zit but the last 6" where it joins the intake. I ordered a new on anyway. Can't let my wife spend all my money.

The rubber is fatigued, so it will expand under pressure and take a set.

Its usually always the top hose doing that from having air in it from time to time , you never see a bottom hose go bad like that because it is full of coolant all of the time.

ah, I see that now. Likely the same thing with the layers breaking down and swelling the outer rubber.

My factory upper hose did that in Colorado when it was only 5 years old during my honeymoon in May '81...

I'd replace all of the hoses and all of the coolant while at it.

Ive seen where some use anti-sieze on the hose fittings. Assuming its purpose is to reduce corrosion?

And/or to facilitate easier removal in the future, although this is the first I've heard of using anti-seize at hose connections. I use a very thin swipe of dielectric grease to keep 'em from sticking. It's especially helpful years later when separating hoses from heater cores that don't well tolerate a lot of twisting, tugging and prying.
