I’ve had some bad luck with restored carbs. I got this beautiful restored AFB carb back from a restorer for my GTX and not sure why but I decided to open it up before installing. The jets and rods were just totally screwed up. They weren’t even the same on the secondaries and on the primaries. The rods were different and wrong too. It was like they just grabbed what ever was laying around and threw in it. I put the correct jets and rods in it (had to search for the rods for a few days) and put it back together and it runs great.

I got kind of messed up on a carb Holley restored years ago. It was custom jetted and they returned it to me with stock jets without saying anything. That they replaced the jets as a restoration is understandable but they didn’t tell me that so I had to ask them if they had changed them, and then take it apart and change them out.

i won’t ever put a restored carb on one of my cars again without first taking it apart to see what’s inside.

Unfortunately the guy who did my 3367 last year has retired. He was working out of his garage and the local council shut him down over the chemicals he used.
Everyone makes mistakes I know, but that’s such a rookie error, I wonder what else he’s overlooked, guess I’ll find out.

Well, it idles and runs ok, maybe a tad rich, but not too bad, will fine tune it later.
One of the welsh plugs on top of the bowl is weeping, it’s been sealed (poorly) but I think some JB weld will take care of it.

I had luck once re-peening the metal around the welch plug on a bowl, but I have had good luck with JB Weld sealing them. Very common with Holley carburetors.
