i need help decoding a 327 engine
casting 3782870
L123 or L128 not clear
engine code 4108957 f1215rd

The numbers all say that block is for a model year 1964 327/300 engine and it was cast in late 1963.

You'd be well served by taking some solvent (ONLY!) to that engine pad to remove the paint. You want to expose the original machining marks known as "broach marks" to verify the pad has not been restamped.

Do NOT use any mechanical means to remove the paint! No wire brush. No sand paper. Any of these aggressive mechanical removal processes could destroy the broach marks. Use solvent on a rag ONLY.

After paint removal, post pictures of the pad and you'll get opinions about its validity.

we can see right thru the chevy orange paint that the pad was not stamped by factory.. Fonts and spacing are not factory. And I'm sure the block machine marks will say the same thing when paint is removed.
