I want a little wider tire on my stock '66. I presently have 205/75/15 and I believe 215/70/15 will fit but does anyone run 225/65/15? They are almost an inch wider than the 205's.
What width wheel are you planning on running? I don't know why so many want a wider tire considering fender damage possibilities and road debris to the paint, but just for grins, I Googled it and AI got it right.
A 225/65R15 tire is generally too wide and tall for a stock C2 Corvette (1963-1967), which originally ran smaller tires (like 7.75x15) on narrower wheels, but it might fit on the rear with aftermarket 15x7 or wider wheels and proper backspacing, though clearance issues, rubbing (especially over bumps), and speedometer errors are likely; it's generally not recommended without modifications, especially for stock looks or front fitment.

I've always thought C2's had skinny looking tires. The 225s are actually .6 inch shorter but .8 inch wider. I would be using the bolt on KO's on the car now, which I believe are 5.5" wide with 3.5" (?) backspace.
Maybe someone who has tried will join in, but what works on one C2 might not on another. The tolerances weren't consistent between cars and they were designed to run what is now equivalent to 205 75 15. I have a friend with a 66 and a busted fender who was running 215 70 15 and turned a corner quickly to go up a steep driveway and the tire caught the front wheel well lip and shattered it. For my own car the extra .8" width is not worth the risk.
Get a ruler and take sometime to measure your wheel wells. It is not hard
and then you will know what fits. I keep getting bigger tires and wheels. When stock
I could get a 215/15 front and a 235/15 rear. Now unstock 225/15 and 275/15.

I have 235/60-15 on a 7" wide rim on my car now. It fits but it's CLOSE and the backspace is critical. I am considering going slightly smaller as I am due for tires but don't want to throw off my speedometer. I have never had stock wheels on this car so I don't know the backspace but to be honest, unless you are considering a wider rim too, I don't think changing the tire size alone is going to make that big of a difference.
