63 steering column
I have the complete column out. Noticed notchey motion not smooth. Can I loosen the clamp on the lower and pull the shaft out without destroying anything up top?

Yes, remove the lower clamp and carefully lift the hub and shaft out from the top, be careful with the cancelling cam and it's clocking position when you reassemble. Carefully inspect the lower steering shaft for grooves and the lower bearing.
