I own a 65 coupe and the motor has been replaced with a crate motor with EFI, so the tach drive distributor is long gone. I am installing a digital tach and am needing input on wiring. I’m looking for a 12v switched source and have read that the brown wire going to the wiper motor is a good switched source. Also the pink or pink/black wire under the dash. I have found a pink/black wire under the dash that has been cut with nothing attached to it. I checked and it is “hot” with the key on. Attached is a pic.
What was this wire originally used for, and is it a suitable 12v switched source for my digital tach? Thanks!
since your parking brake switch is not plugged in I would say thats it. it would be safer to use one of the extra lugs on the fuse block for your needs

The only issue is there aren’t any extra “switched” sources on the fuse block. There are a few that are “constant” hot.
Probably difficult for you to find; there should be a brown wire to a capacitor on the back of the cluster. It’s not shown on the wiring diagram but it’s there if you have a radio.

You are correct, there are NO open ignition switched sources in the fuse panel. That black pink wire previously went to your parking brake warning switch and would be a good place to connect your tach for two reasons: it's switched, and it's sticking out in the open under the dash and has 12v on it any time the key is on and you don't want it touching anything under there. The power comes from the top fuse in the fuse panel marked "gauges" so it's perfect for your connection.
PS: The other open lugs (lamps) you mentioned are only "hot" when the headlamp or park lights are on, or are (acc) always hot for use with pwr windows. The brown wire on the wiper motor would work also, but is not fused. The back up lamp pink wire (or black/pink) in the connector by the master cylinder is also the same electrical point as the black/pink you have under the dash, whichever is more convenient for you, but tape off the end of that open wire you have if you aren't going to use it.
