The passenger side, front part of my hood on my 66 is about 1/8” too high. The drivers side is perfect. There are factory shims under both hood hinges. If I remove the passenger side shim only, will that lower that part of the hood?
Is it a full shim that spans the entire seat of the hinge bottom? If so, then yes you can remove it and it will drop that side of the hood. However, if it’s just a regular body shim that is only under the rear bolt on the hinge base only, removing it will raise that side of the hood. This is because the pivot point is cantilevered forward of the hinge so raising the rear of the hinge up with a shim, angles the pivot point slightly lower, to lower the hood height.
Common problem. I finally just sectioned a hinge by 3/16”
Sat what turned out to be 3/16” too high I used a stack of body filler spreaders to determine the proper height How much I had to section Marked with index lines Sectioned… …clamped… …welded and ground It’s now perfect
