Default Headliner advice

I'm finishing up the interior on my '64 Coupe. I have a Knoch headliner that they advise to glue in. My question is can I put some type of insulation on before it? Is there room? Will Knoch headliner adhere to it ok? Should I just use the headliner-No insulation? It gets hot here in the summer....Thanks

Both sound and heat attenuation > Plenty of single layer products available .

I put the double layer sound/insulator matt similar to dynomatt up there, single layer of buttle, then the 1/4" foamish stuff they offer. I was aiming towards sound, thermal, and condensation control. Never ran it in the winter, but I feel it did what I asked of it.

If open you absolutely want to dampen the panel and then put light weight foam.

Adhesives wont stick in the center, you want that on the metal hat shaped sections.

see this thread -
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...m_content=post

then this link for the headliner foam

pictures disapeared, have to find them this evening.

I am planning to use an outdoor 3m adhesive with hook loop in the event it needs to be removed - this: https://amzn.to/4rwJDLD

There is definitely room to put dynamat in. This is my 64 coupe when I redid my headliner.

Thanks for the info. Just ordered the Melamine Foam for the roof area. I ordered the peel off backing. (fingers crossed it never needs to be removed....)

where are they telling you to glue it up? There is a gap between the headliner and the fiberglass body so why would you try to glue it in. The perimeter would do nothing. There is plenty of room for sound deadening insulation above it. The headliners that they sell are not anything like the original the chances of them falling down are slim to none because they are made of plastic not at all like the original.

I've put the new headliners in other builds without adhesive but I've never installed sound/heat deadener first. So I was questioning how it's been done. My plan now is to use the light weight "melanine" stick on-then the headliner which is held by the trim. I might try to just take a few strips off to expose the sticky part. Just enough so the Melamine woon't put pressure on the headliner. I haven't received the Melanine yet but I think it's very light weight.

I think that is a good plan. Test fit everything. Most new headliners require some trimming to fit properly. Once the foam is installed do another quick dry fit of the new headliner to determine any trimming required and please post pictures.

A day after painting my '66 coupe, I rolled it outside to see the sun. With a heat gun, I kept a close eye on the temp of the fiberglass, it rose fairly quickly to 100, then at 110 I rolled it back inside. Our bodies get quiet hot in full sun, This is the reason I opted for the insulation.
