are there any id marks on them to identify as repro or GM covers? my dad has a set we removed 20 years ago that the pervious put on god only knows how long before we bought the car and where he got them. he might be selling them soon and I want to know how to call them. and what is fair market price on them. this is just the covers and the upper molding.
From my experience there should be a part number stamped in the insulator close to where the pipes bend. If the color of the insulator is dark gray and they have the part number they are probably older GM covers. If the insulator color is lighter gray they are still GM if the part number is there, likely purchased from the dealer later on.
No part number means reproduction covers, but I could be wrong.
With all the midyears I've had with side pipes, I don't recall ever seeing stamped numbers on the covers. Maybe when they were new over the counter, there was a glued on label?
I have seen GM pipes with the stamped numbers and they were right about where 6t7ray
mentioned, about where the pipe makes the big bend just before the chambered/straight section.

The factory covers have part numbers molded, not stamped, into each of the two insulator pieces. One is shorter and curved and the other is long and straight.
There are other threads here that give the actual part numbers.
Its possible that the insulators are factory items that have been removed from factory covers and glued into repop covers, though.
Ive got a couple sets of covers that have factory insulators and I haven’t found any numbers stamped into the aluminum covers, only the ones molded into the insulators.
