I never get to post over here, so I finally found an excuse to come over & say hi! Ok, I know I'm not one to talk given the creature I made, but I'm curious to see what you all thought of this thing. It was at the show I recently had Merlin in. I sat there looking at it & wasn't quite sure what to make of it. I think the concept was cool, but I'm not sure if I liked it or not. Hats off to the guy for trying something new though!
I saw this car at the Monterey car show last year. The owner said he had $80K (I think that is what he said?) in the car. If you look closely, it is a C5 body with a custom front and rear clip. The mechanical is all C5. The interior has a retro look but is modern. One cool thing about it is the tailpipe holes in the rear bumper have blue lights in them, it looks like afterburner's in a jet when they are " lit up". The real exhaust is a C5 system coming out under the rear clip. The other thing funny thing about this car is trunk space. When I saw it, the owner was really working at getting his suitcase in the trunk because it has all of 1 cubic foot of volume. He was pushing down on the lid pretty hard to get it to close. :lol:
I saw one of these cars at the Woodward cruise. Pictures dont quite do it justice. It was great looking car and the craftsmanship was superb. Its manufactured by a company that produces concept cars for the auto makers.
Don't like em. No sir not one bit. :nonod: I like your car though Merlin.
THanks Steve! Opinions on the 53-C5 seem to be all over the map. People either love it or hate it. I still haven't formed an opinion but I really like the fact that they did something new & unique. One thing I have learned from my project. If I had a mint 53, I would leave it alone!! :yesnod: :cheers:

Re: Frankenvette!! (Bluestripe67)
I like it. There's a guy in the area that went retro with his C5. Has the coves on the sides with air brushed emblems, gives it a distinctive look and turns a lot of heads. :D
Merlin;
I too saw this car and your car at Puyallup. I had kind of the same emotions about it in that from certain angles it looked really good and others it wasn't quite right. Basically though I would have to say I like it. I thought it had excessively large gaps around the hood joints which detracted from the overall appearance.
Now your car, it was awesome!! You were pretty mobbed when I came by so didn't have a chance to say hello but spent quite awhile lookin and drooling. Wish I could have heard that beastie running. Bet it's a rocket ship!
I saw one like it at Carlisle also, and I really liked it. Kinda wish GM had taken some of this approach for the 50th anniv. edition.
Merlin, that is one awesome car you have. :cool:
They're made about ten miles from me by Advanced Automotive Technologies, in Auburn Hills, Michigan; drop off your C5 and a check for $30K and pick it up ten days later - they're SWAMPED with orders. Magna/Steyr developed it and offered it to GM three years ago as a "drop-ship" option as the 50th anniversary Corvette, but the toothpaste-and-sunglasses marketers were still in charge back then, and they weren't interested - "nobody would want one of those" :sleep: A.A.T. went out and found private financing for the molds instead, and it's a roaring success.
What did we get instead for the 50th anniversary Corvette? A red (?) car with $6,000 worth of electro-rheological magnetic shock absorbers :lolg:
I Like it. I'm not supprised there is a market for it. We have been talking about fitting new running gear in the older vettes here on the forum and this looks like a good option for the people who like the idea but don't have the skills or time to do it themselves. I can't afford a car like this but I bet it would be cheaper than taking a C-1 or C-2 and fitting it with all new suspention, Engine ,Etc.
