Hey guys, most of my questions are usually answered with a quick search of the archives, but surprisingly I couldn’t find much on this subject. I’ve owned and restored a few corvettes over the years, but I’ve never removed the body from the frame , I’ve taken on a project of a late friend of mines, 66 roadster, chassis is all complete, and I just about have the body ready to paint. I see the production line photos of how the bodies were lifted, I have an overhead crane, is this the best way to lift the body for placement on the chassis,?, I don’t mind making a quick jig to do it, seems like it would stress the front end quite a bit. Just looking for simple ideas that work, maybe four guys is the best way?
4-6 healthy guys can pick it up. You can also use a two post lift and place the pads under the bird cage rocker Chanel Just make sure the body is well balanced.
Most of the larger Corvette vendors sell a strap kit you can use in conjunction with your crane. To protect the paint, you can add towels etc. under the straps. I used the straps with an engine lift to remove the body on my 66 coupe. Nice body and garage. Jerry
