Default Grab Bar

Does anyone have a source for a grab bar the right size for my '61. I've bought two from Corvette Central and they are both way too fat. As you can see from the photo, I had to open it up and scrape out the filling in order to get the end caps on. I had to dig in quite deep bacause the end cap has to slide to the inside in order to attach the bar to the bracket. It's a real PITA and looks terrible. Has anyone bought one recently that's the right size? Many thanks.

I think you dug out too much. Or only dig out enough to get the padded part to sneak up to the edge of the crome amd them squish on a little. There is no precision with these old used cars. Everything needs to be fit, adjusted and refit, try again at least five times! Trim- fit, trim fit. Try some soap or windex to get it to slide easier.

They may have fit better when first assembled, but they had the advantage of a continuous part supply and a continuous production line. Then they got very good at adjusting to be food enough....ship it. Now 60 year on not so much.

Ever done window fuzzies now that is a fun one?

Compress the foam by wrapping tape, but backwards, so it doesnt leave reside. Keep wrapping and stretching the tape over the area where the trim ends fit.

After you're done simply remove the tape.
