Default Engine Stamp Identification Help

Hi All,

I inherited this '62 from my father who purchased it from my uncle in '82, who purchased it in New Orleans in '68 (I have the 1968 Bill of sale). My father always believed this car was nearly all original and made every reasonable effort to keep it that way whenever work was performed. As I have been looking the car over to learn more about it, I discovered that the engine stamp (assuming I'm looking in the right place) does not align with the car. The suffix is HD, and the date section, while corroded does look like it could be a 5 which from what I have been able to work out could align 1965 and the HD suffix. I checked with my uncle and he said neither he nor my father replaced the engine. So if I am correct that this engine doesn't match, it would mean it was swapped between 1965 and 1968, before my uncle purchased it. Just looking for some more eyes on this to confirm what I think I see. Any input would be appreciated.

if you can find the casting date and casting number which is found on the bellhousing flange of the block on sides it will positively ID it. but more than likely its a 65 327/300 with a 4 barrel carb and auto from a full size car

The broach marks look good, does the VIN match the car VIN? Probably not.
HD was used for 66 and 67 Corvettes, 327 / 350 hp with Manual transmission and A/C according to the Lime Book. It was also used for the passenger cars for a 327/300 hp in 65.
Definitely not 62. Maybe someone can tell you what it came from by the VIN, but not me.

Ron it's either a 65 or 66 because of the F in the assembly stamp. 67 used the letter V for flint. And by the vin stamp I'm a positive it's a full size car
