Hello All,
I am looking into what to possibly do with this 1964 Corvette frame. It looks a little punky/rusty in the drivers side right before the kick up over the rear axle along with someone did a number on the motor mount area
. A couple of questions regarding this.
Is this something repariable or is this a oh no and replace the frame? If replacing the frame is the better option where do I get a frame?
I'm attaching the pictures I have but they may not be good enough to get a view of the full damage. If you all want to chime in to let me know what your thoughts are it would be good to start somewhere.
Three options. Vette products of Mi makes new frames and repair sections. The repair sections you're going to cut and splice and be a good at reading a tape measure. Or you can find a good used 64 frame from resto mod builders.
Mine was bad, I found a good (actually excellent) '66 rolling chassis. disc brakes, new lines, lots more. Saved me a ton of work and hassle. Lots and lots of guys going the restomod route, you should be able to find something better than fixing that up.
Welcome, glad to have another '64 around. And since you probably have not seen it, here's what happened when we pulled the frame out from under my '64.

Railroadman.... thats exactly what my 64 frame did when I pulled the body. Seller stated that the frame was a little rusty ! I put a 78 frame under it.
Welcome to the 64 club! Frames show up often on the internet, start looking and you find one in no time. I would not not waste any time on a rusty frame with today's frame surplus from restomods.
You are nit too far from me, if need any assistance, let me know I'm near Eaton Rapids, MI.
A 63 frame is a 63 frame. A 64 frame is a 64 frame. A 65 & 66 are interchangeable. A 67 frame is a 67 frame. You can make any fit a 64, but the 63 & 67 will require more work.

The '64 had an additional mount inboard which later frames don't have. When I put the '64 body on the '66 chassis, I just didn't put anything on that one.
The 64 frame also had an additional corner support added around 4/22/64 so if concerned about NCRS (or even resale) determine about when car was built and
add or delete support. See 64 AIM section 1 mounting - sheet 2.0
Alan makes a good point - it depends on what you want to do with the car. If you are going for judging, find another '64 frame or have that one fixed. If you want something to drive and enjoy without caring if it's original, do whatever works for you. There's nothing "wrong" with either choice.
I ran into a similar problem when I pulled the body on my 64 Roadster. I had the frame dipped by International Paint Stripping to remove all the rust. Removing the rust revealed the true extent of the problem. I took my frame to Vette Products of Michigan in Clarkston, They basically replaced the frame from the transmission crossmember rearward. They have a surface plate/jig that they use to build new/replacement frames. My frame was repaired in that jig. Not only do they supply/build new frames, they have the dies to stamp every frame component. I am very happy with their work. I had Big Bill at QC Powercoating in Shelby Twp. powder-coat my frame after the repairs. The rolling frame turned out show quality.
If I could have found a clean used frame for a reasonable price at the time, I would have gone that route. I would still have the frame dipped and coated.
If you want to keep your frame (it is serialized), there is another guy in Michigan with a C2 jig, Roger's Frame Restorations. With pictures, you can get an estimate for comparison to other options mentioned.
