A very nice 57 just joined the C8 and the 66 but the carpet is showing its age. I looked at ZIP and a carpet set was $299. I looked at Al Knock and a carpet set was more than twice that. Any thoughts on why the big difference?
I got a cheap ACC carpet set for my 62 a couple years ago. I also got new AK door panels. The door panels have really nice carpet at the bottom. The main carpet looks really cheap compared to what's on the door panels, and is fading after two years (yes I keep the car in the garage!).
If you want $600 carpet, buy $600 carpet. If you want $300 carpet, buy $300 carpet. It's up to you.
There are different grades of carpet which makes it easy to evaluate. The most important is yarn weight. That is how much yarn per square foot of carpet. The more yarn, the more plush the carpet. I requested samples and technical data from the handful of "manufacturers" in the USA prior to ordering carpet. Basically, all offered near equal high level quality but some offered lesser quality also. It is difficult to find a retailer who will provide you with the manufacturer's data and guarantee that is what he is selling. It seems, he doesn't really know nor care, buyer beware here in the USA. Also, the quality of the backing and molding of the carpet is important. I did end up using ACC carpet and was satisfied with the product. I didn't buy from the high end retailers, but that is a gamble I chose not to 'call the hand' as they could /would not provide me on their carpet.

Original correctness is also an issue. The cheaper "replacement" carpet sets usually have the wrong color driver heel pad and incorrect stitching. If you plan to have the car judged for originality you need to have the more expensive carpet set with the black heel pad and correct stitching pattern. If originality is not important the replacement Daytona weave is fine and will save you a lot of money. One other problem is the beige 56/57 color in the lower cost carpet has been unavailable lately. Most sites only have brown.
