I need to take a '63 clock out of my '66 and replace it with a proper '66 clock. I haven't found a description of the clock removal process in my shop manual. I'm stuck. Anybody have a "how to do it", source for this job? Can anyone offer instructions?
Removing the clock may be the only simple thing to do in a midyear, reach behind the console and pull out the two retaining clips from the side. The clock will then just pull out from behind. I am not sure if the wires are the same but I cannot imagine how different they can be, I believe from my old memory that it is just a ground and a hot wire, not even sure about the ground, may be grounded by the clips. Putting it back in takes alittle manuevering because of the tight space but if you have a nine year old it is simple...My nine year old put mine back in.
I just took the clock out of my 63 and had it changed to quartz.... wow, does it keep great time now. Real simple to do, if memory serves me correctly the electrical clips are the same for both years.... :smash:
Andy,
What's involved with the quartz upgrade? Does it still keep the second hand? What about resetting the time? Also, is it the type sold by Ecklers? Thanks
The quartz upgrade is simple to do. You just follow the directions provided in the kit. Put the clock back together and in the car and voila. I got my kit from Ecklers. Yes the second hand is still on the clock. You only have to change some of the gears inside the clock. The face and hand remain unchanged unless you want to freshen up the hands with paint. You reset the time the same as you did with the old clock. :chevy :chevy
It's very simple to repair, but you'll want to make sure all is well before returning it to it's home.
I'd reccomend that you bench run the repaired clock at least over night before you put it back together and back in the car..
Unless you like fitting your hands in tight places
Also take the opportunity to check the lights, they are easy to get to while the clock is out
