I read a very interesting article about the 4 Corvettes that competed at Le Mans in 1960. 2 of the 3 Cunningham cars still exist as does the Lilley/Gamble car. However, the #1 Cunningham car which was involved in a big accident and caught fire, its whereabouts is not known.
Cool, I have seen the #2 car at Goodwood FoS in 2001, I knew Chip Miller owned the #3 car, so where is the #1 ?? Who owns it? What condition is it in ? What is the VIN Number ?
Any help would be great.
At least 10 of us have been looking since # 2 was found in an Irwindale, Ca junkyard in 1979. So some us have a 24 year head start looking for the car.
Does anyone know the VIN number of car? Otherwise how do you know you have found THE car?
I still don't understand how you americans can you lose a 1960 Corvette!!
:)
No one cared about old race cars until Steve Earle started the Monterey Historic automoble races in 1974. And even then, it was hard to ever believe that they would comand the price and value that they have reached today.
In 1978 I missed buying one of the original Grand Sports for $20000. Richard Buxbaum bought it and painted it red for resale. In 1984 the Allen Green Chevrolet 62 Sebring car, which was put away after the race and still had it's original paint was for sale for $35000. I passed.........it was not a competative car.
Yes, a few of us know the vin numer of the missing 60 Cunningham car.
