The VIN will not tell you the original color of the car. You didn't indicate the year of your car. For an example, this is the information for a 65 Corvette. I got it off the CorvetteActionCenter website.
1st digit - Division: 1=Chevrolet
2nd/3rd - Series: 94=Corvettet
4th/5th - Body Style: 37= 2-door coupe, 67 = 2-door convertible
6th - Model Year: 5=1965
7th - Assembly Plant: S = St. Louis
Last 6 digits - Production number
The original color is indicated on the Trim Tag that should be located beside the VIN tag under the glove compartment. Again, here are colors applicable to a 65. Most Corvette books and a lot of websites have this information.
AA Tuxedo Black
CC Ermine White
FF Nassau Blue
GG Glen Green
MM Milano Maroon
QQ Silver Pearl
UU Rally Red
XX Goldwood Yellow
'67 convertible, built on or about January 27, 1967, is all the VIN will tell you. The aluminum trim tag just to the left of the VIN plate has the numerical codes (not just letter codes) on it for the exterior paint color and interior trim color, and the body number will have either an "S" prefix (St. Louis-built body) or an "A" prefix (A.O. Smith-built body). There will also be a body build date code stamped just to the left of "Detroit". Post those codes and we can tell you what color and trim it was originally.
