500 citations .. ?! .. OT
Coast-to-coast, S.F. to Miami .. Entry fee: $16,500; plus another 15-20K to have their cars ferried by plane to the US from Europe, where most of the competitors were from .. .. .. Seems the boys got together for a little free spirited Gumball Rally action. Right out of the gate, squealin' rubber out of the Fairmont Hotel parking lot, from S.F. to Oakland and across the Bay Bridge at 100 mph, posted for 50. Guys weaving in and out of traffic on I-80, even passing cars on the shoulder .. !! .. The CHP impounded 5 cars; 3 BMW's, a Mercedes, and a Porsche. There were Farraris, Lamborghini's, Bentleys, and other "dream machines", it was said. BUT .. No mention of any CORVETTES .. ?? .. One guy was clocked at 210 mph in a 655-horse Koenigsegg, in Texas .. . .. .. -- wonder if that guy went to JAIL .. ? .. .. .. Another guy racked up $10,000 in fines and bail postings before reaching New Orleans. Maybe it was the same guy .. ? .. By the time the race finished Tuesday night, in Miami, more than 500 tickets had been issued ..
The slowest entry was a Volkswagen Eurovan sponsored by a beverage company called, Yoo-hoo .. But the most telling thing was a story about the guy with the Koenigsegg. This machine goes for $400,000 .. ! .. Seems this guy blew out some gasket and the only replacement part available locally was at a nearby dealer. The dealer only had the "part" in a new car. So the guy BOUGHT the car and took only the gasket . .!?!!. . :lolg: ..
Are there really folks out there with money to BURN .. ?! .. Sure seems like it .. :D ..
Just sumthin' to talk about ..
