I was reading in corvette fever where most of the C2's leak because of something they didn't do right around the cowl area at the factory. Anybody have this problem?
-------If you are getting water intrusion thru the kick-panel vents as you say,I may be able to help.Almost always what has happened is that over the years debris has fallen thru the cowl vents and found its way down around the sides and has filled up the lower area outside the interior vents.Water also goes down there and once the debris has gotten wet enough times it solidifies and plugs up the drain hole that is there expressly so that water wont get into the passenger compartment.Looking under the chassis in that area you will be able to find that drain hole.Poking up thru it will temporarily cure the problem.
--------To cure the problem completely you will have to take the kick-panels and vent assemblys off and clean out the area of everything. It really isnt that big a job.Great Saturday job,as you will feel like you really accomplished something, and you can take it out that night and enjoy your handiwork..................Bill S
You may also want to pull your windshield wipers and vents out to look around inside the cowl area. Sometimes the bonding joints between the cowl and the firewall become separated or have been damaged by an accident or someone drilling holes to mount speed accessories. I think the method of assembly was kind of marginal anyway because of the bond strips rivited to the birdcage that didn't have sealant under them and porosity of the bond joints. :steering:
