Default HEATER CORE REPLACEMENT

i am about to reinstall my heater box and have noticed that the studs do not protrude through the firewal hardly at all......with the gasket kit i got besides the black rubber seals for the inner and outer boxes there is also a lt. grey foam seal for the inside box.....is this seal needed or can i just use the two black seals that are on the box halves. thanks for your help.

Don't know about color but you need the seals on the flapper doors for sure. Without those you get heat all the time even with the fan off. As for the bolts, you can use longer ones to get 'seal crush' and then remove them and reinstall the correct length bolts.

I installed my heater and used all the seals in the kit except the gray one that you are refuring too. All is working fine.

Just done that.....

....you need to use the studs that are there. Normally they are used with speed nuts. in order to have the pull straight away you can use flat washers and "normal" nuts....

Use all seals. The grey one that you are referring to seals the blower motor from the rest of the housig and is necessary to get the optimum air pressure out of it.

Make sure that the heater core is correctly mounted with the straps to its support and that the heater box inside the car is a direct fit to the firewall using the one seal (remember there is one stud mounting inside the car.....that is best fitted from the drivers side) . Free firewall from any heat insulation that could be in the way.

Then things should work ok.

 Good one! Seriously, don't count on it, the heat primarily comes through the firewall and the trans tunnel. The only effective means I have ever found for reducing the heat input to the cabin is to add insulation under the carpeting (and to install the trans tunnel insulation - if it is missing).
