Hey Guy's.
Anybody found a way to replace the temperature gauge without having to remove the gauge cluster? Mine is giving erratic readings , and I have replaced the sencer unit etc. As we are going into summer,I would prefer it was accurate. :nopity
Have you checked gauge response with a jumper wire directly from the sender terminal on the gauge to the sending unit? The existing wire goes through the inboard gang connector on the engine side of the fuse block, and those connections are frequently corroded, causing high resistance and all manner of electrical gremlins.
I haven't tried a jumper wire, however the main harness is new. that includes the fuse box and all. Still think the connection could be the problem? The temp run's very high. it seems to indicate that it is running @ about 210 - 220 degrees.
Thanks
Dave
Almost all current replacement senders result in erroneous gauge readings, usually 20-40 degrees too high; verify what your gauge is telling you by finding a shop with an I.R. temp gun and "shooting" the thermostat housing at full operating temperature and comparing that (accurate) reading with whatever the gauge shows at the same time. The Wells TU-5 sender ($5.00 at AutoZone) is the closest off-the-shelf sender to the original sender calibration, and several vendors (Lectric Limited, etc.) now have senders they claim are correctly calibrated for about $20.00.
Thanks for your help. I'll give lectric limited a try. While I'm picking your brain, have you any suggestions for a restrictor or something like that for my oil pressure guage? the 1965 gauge reads to 60 psi. I'm running a high morroso oil pump and it is constantly pegged. I'm worried I will dammage it.
Thanks again
