C2 hardtops

The vette is fire engine red, with a silver hardtop, black soft top and black interior.
A couple of questions:
1) When the hardtop was ordered with the car from the factory/dealer, was there a choice of hardtop colors, or just a standard color that coordinated with the color of the car?
2) As noted, the vette is fire engine red, with a silver hardtop.
Should we keep the hardtop silver, or change it to red to match the car?, or any other color combination suggested would be appreciated.
Also, any other suggestions as to the process of changing the color of the hardtop? Easy job or not worth it?
My dad bought the vette in 1970, and it has been pretty much the same since he bought it, but no history on the car prior to his ownership, and luckily it is a matching #'s 327/350 horse.
Thanks for your inputs.

-------Hardtop would have always been body color, never different. In 67 only, you could opt for black vinyl.
-------Changing the color of your Dads can be done one of two ways. You could leave all the chrome on and sand and paint. You could also take the entire top apart, strip it of paint, and then repaint. This would give you the opportunity to polish the stainless, the plexi, and add whatever new weatherstrips are necessary.
-------Some people find the hardtop a little tough to take apart and reassemble.Depends on your skill level or desire to learn.Dont even think about replacing the back window unless really necessary!Good luck!.....................Bill S
